A Day in the Life of Young Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter is known world-wide for her children's short stories
and illustrations that involve tales of animals getting into mischief!
Potter's success as an author and illustrator stems back to her early
childhood, when her imagination was inspired by playing outside in
the gardens, fields, and woods. Her experiences as a child transformed her into a famous artist, farmer and land conservationist. Join instructor Heather Scott, naturalist and land conservationist, as she shares Beatrix Potter's Collection of Short Stories with the group.

During a walk on the land, Heather prompts participants to identify
and draw nature scenes in the gardens. Participants will also be
encouraged to use their imagination to create their own story. The
second class involves painting the hand-drawn scene with water
colors and sharing the imaginative story with the group. Please bring
a backpack with water, snack, notebook and pencil. Proceeds will
go towards Farm Operations for 2012! Instructor - Heather Scott, Medway Community Farm

NEW! Grow Your Own Garlic

Garlic is one of the easiest crops to grow, provided you take care to plant properly and prepare your soil well. It's also the easiest seed to save, so once you buy seed one year, you will have your own seed every year (provided you don't eat it all!). Brittany Sidway, the Farm Manager at Medway Community Farm, is excited to offer a garlic planting tutorial at the farm. She will provide basic information about preparing soil for planting, tips for care and harvest, and other useful information. You will then be invited to practice by helping plant some of the Farm's garlic for 2012. All participants will take home one pound of seed garlic, which is enough for about 30 plants with each plant producing one bulb. You need approximately six square inches for each plant, or 15 square feet for the whole pound, of garden space with direct sunlight. The variety we will purchase is White German which has a hardy "neck" that thrives in our New England Climate.

You are invited to attend the informational session without purchasing seed garlic at a reduced fee of $12.50. Insructor - Brittany Sidway; Farm Manager at Medway Community Farm
