Work for Share 2011

Work For Share Opportunities

Help us out in the fields or a the stand for 4 hours/week during the CSA distribution and receive a weekly share in return.  We will need different types of work-for-share help, including harvesting, weeding and managing the farm stand.  Those interested in these positions will need to interview with the farmer before the season begins.  It is important to the viability of the farm to have workers who are dedicated, reliable and passionate about what we are doing.

It is possible to miss a week or two, but you are encouraged to find another work-for-share to trade shifts, or make up the shift at another time during the week, or the week before you are unable to attend.

Harvest-for-share: 6

Help with the harvest of your vegetables.  People in these positions will come to the farm at 8am on either Tuesday or Thursday or 6am on Saturday to help pick and wash the vegetables for that day’s distribution. The harvest will hopefully be done by 11:00 am and then workers will either help the farmer wash produce or do a weeding project in the field until Noon. Harvesters will need to be able to work with moderate intensity outside in all kinds of weather. If the harvest finishes before 11, expect to do more field projects like weeding and transplanting.

Farm Stand Managers: 2

We will need two people who are able to manage the farm stand and CSA pick up from 2:00-6:00, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday.  These workers will be responsible for restocking shelves, processing transactions at the farm stand and helping to direct other CSA members as needed.

Weed-for-share: 2

Come to the farm on a regular schedule as it suits you and the farmer.  Weeding includes hoeing and hand weeding, both of which can be very physically demanding tasks, but are great substitutes for the gym!

Benefits of being a work for share:

Help grow and harvest the food you eat

Make friends

Get exercise while doing meaningful work

Learn about growing food

Get first dibs on ‘seconds’ or slightly blemished, but mostly perfect food for free!
